The post covers the installation and integration of the control and sensor systems within the AutoNaut technology. This post ideally requires a good understanding of control, communication and software interfacing as well as experience of marine science sensors in use within a wide range of industries.
The post holder will have responsibility for:
Installation of electrical and electronic systems into the AutoNaut hull.
Integration/interfacing of sensors with the control and communication systems.
Providing day to day input to design and interface control, ensuring compatibility of component specifications, engineering drawings and all technical documentation.
Support and manage the undertaking of integration and system testing from workshop testing through to sea trials. Note this may include the witnessing of supplier acceptance testing, or off site working for extended periods.
Management of the sensor data for delivery to customers.
Interfacing with sensor OEMs and specialist sub-contractors.
Ensure systems engineering activities are compliant with Health and Safety Policy in the execution of the company’s activities.
The post holder will be regularly involved with the following company activities:
Development of AutoNaut operating/piloting system and procedures.
Technical input into RFQ/bid responses for customers.
Candidate
We are seeking an ambitious and experienced electronics or IT professional who will make good use of existing hardware solutions, minimise the need for custom interface circuitry (but design what is needed where necessary) and focus on creating first class, highly reliable systems and software solutions for this unmanned vessel technology. Candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications and experience:
A relevant degree level qualification. (Computer science, electronic or systems engineering).
Experience of concept design, build and testing of electronic and computing systems.
Experience in prototyping electrical and software systems for development testing.
Some experience in a relevant technical and/or operator background.
Ability to communicate effectively in technical English both orally and in writing.
It would also be advantageous for candidates to have experience/qualifications in one or more of the following areas:
Experience in installation and operation of wireless and satellite communication systems.
Experience in installing/integrating and operating marine sensors/transducers and systems.
A masters level technical or business qualification.
An understanding of marine science, relevant sensors and data management, processing and analysis.
Experience in designing and manufacturing electronic systems.
C++, MatLab, Python, Java code development experience.
Some project management experience.
Practical small boat experience and / or RYA qualifications.
The post holder will report to the General Manager who will be the line manager.
